When Michigan State Agricultural School started teaching in May, there were three buildings, five faculty members and 63 students. 1857. Joseph R. Williams, the first president of Michigan State Agricultural School, designed a course that required more scientific research than other universities at that time.
The content integrates science, liberal arts education and practical training. Because most students don't teach classical literature in high school, this course doesn't include Latin and Greek.
It is worth noting that this course requires students to work three hours a day in order to reduce tuition fees. Although Joseph William strongly advocates his innovative teaching system, the Michigan Ministry of Education thinks his courses are too elite. Therefore, in 1859, Joseph William was forced to leave his post and his course was reduced to two-year vocational training.
