Xuzhou institute of technology was formed by the merger of the former Pengcheng Vocational College and the former Xuzhou Economic Management Cadre College. Pengcheng Vocational College was established in May, 1983. It is a full-time ordinary college approved by the people's government of Jiangsu Province and reported to the State Planning Commission and the Ministry of Education for the record. Xuzhou Economic Management Cadre College was established in May, 1985. It is an independent adult college approved by the people's government of Jiangsu Province and reported to the Ministry of Education for the record. In June 2002, with the approval of the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Jiangsu Province, the two universities merged to form xuzhou institute of technology. In March 2005, the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Jiangsu Province agreed to formally establish xuzhou institute of technology. In 2007, the former Xuzhou Institute of Education, a normal college founded in 1959, was merged into xuzhou institute of technology.
