Southwest Jiaotong University was founded in 1896. It has three campuses, Chengdu Jiuli, Chengdu Xipu and Emei, covering an area of about 5,000 mu, forming a school-running pattern of "one school, two places and three campuses". In 2008, marked by the shift of the focus of the school's work, the main campus of the school was moved to Chengdu Xipu Campus, and the function of Chengdu Jiuli Campus was positioned as a national laboratory (preparation) and a postgraduate and continuing education base for major supporting disciplines.
Jiuli Campus has an innovative platform for advantageous disciplines in transportation engineering, a national laboratory for rail transit (in preparation), a State Key Laboratory for Traction Power which has great influence in the world transportation field, and a national university science park.
Based on the development of rail transit characteristic disciplines, personnel training and scientific research, the campus makes full use of the advantages of running a school to carry out continuing education and online education, making contributions to the construction of a "high-level research university with coordinated development of multi-disciplines with traffic characteristics", the construction of national rail transit and the development of local economy.
