The Postgraduate Program of Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics in Northwest University is an on-the-job postgraduate program under the School of Foreign Languages. It consists of English Department, Japanese Department, College English Teaching I, College English Teaching II, College English Teaching III, College English Teaching Reform Department, Russian, German, French and Japanese Comprehensive Teaching and Research Section, Language Teaching Experiment Center and Language Training Center. I. Introduction of major and main research direction:

Foreign linguistics and applied linguistics mainly study English linguistics and English teaching. At the same time, extensive discussions are held in the fields of language comparison, cultural comparison and cross-cultural communication.

This major has the following two research directions:

1. English Language and Culture Studies

2. English teaching research

2. Training objectives:

Graduate students must master the basic principles of Marxism–Leninism, adhere to the Four Cardinal Principles, love the motherland, abide by laws and regulations, have good moral quality, a rigorous scientific attitude and an excellent style of study, and are willing to contribute to the socialist construction of the motherland. 1. Understand the research history and present situation at home and abroad and the development of related disciplines;

4. During the study period, three papers (all the first authors) must be published in important journals.
