Peking University was formerly known as Shi Jing University Hall, which was established in 1898, and Beijing Normal University was formerly known as Shi Jing University Hall, which was established in 1902.

Peking University, born in 1898, was originally named Shi Jing University Hall. It is the first national university in modern China, and the first school established under the name of "University". The predecessor of Beijing Normal University is Shi Jing University Hall, which was founded in 1902. 1908 was renamed as Shi Jing Excellent Normal School, and 19 12 was established. 1923 was renamed Beijing Normal University, and the school was renamed Beijing Normal University, becoming the first one in the history of China.
