Hitotsubashi university is one of the earliest Japanese universities. Its predecessor was the commercial law workshop founded by Japanese thinkers Mori Youli and Fukuzawa Yukichi in 1875. 1920 was changed to the old Tokyo University of Commerce, which is the first business university in Japan and the first of the three old business universities. It was changed to a new university on 1949 with a more general name. In 2004, it was restructured into hitotsubashi university, a national university legal person.
