The main entrance consists of two arches with a figure statue in the middle of the lintel. Whether it's Sterling's style or not, I can't verify it. There are eight wordboards on both sides of the statue, which are very eye-catching. They show several typical ancient scripts in the world, from left to right: cave murals in Neolithic age, Egyptian hieroglyphs, Babylonian cuneiform, Hebrew inscriptions, Arabic, ancient Greek, China Chinese characters and Mayan hieroglyphs. There are some strange words that I have never seen before, and I am at a loss. However, facing the Chinese characters on the second board on the right, I stopped to read it carefully: "Brother Qing is a man or a minister, controlling the cross flow alone, or capturing his master or beheading his evil." The reinforcements stopped and were trapped in the thief's court, and no one was around. Counting his crimes, his hands and feet are attached to the blade, and loyalty and righteousness are visible in color. This is unprecedented in ancient times, and I am very grateful. "After verification, this is a part of Yan Zhenqing's book" Yanshi Temple Monument "in which Emperor Tang Suzong praised Yanshi's family by royal approval.
Yan Zhenqing (708-784), a native of Tang Jingzhao Wannian (now Xi, Shaanxi Province), was an outstanding calligrapher in the Tang Dynasty in China. His "Yan Ti" regular script, together with Zhao Mengfu, Liu Gongquan and Ou Yangxun, is also called "the four masters of regular script". Also known as "Yan Liu Jin Gu" with Liu Gongquan, it is unique in the history of calligraphy in China and has been circulated for thousands of years.
The full name of the tablet of Yan's family temple is "Yan Jun's Inscription, a gift from the Tang Dynasty, the son of less construction, the son of less protection", which was published by Yan Zhenqing for his father Yan Weizhen when he was full of ambition. Calligraphy is the masterpiece of Yan Zhenqing's calligraphy art, and it is known as "the treasure of calligraphers". The monument was built in the first year of Tang Jianzhong (780), and now exists in the forest of steles. The rubbings of the Song Dynasty are collected in the Palace Museum in Beijing.
The works of China's outstanding calligraphers in the Tang Dynasty are juxtaposed with several typical ancient Chinese characters in the world as the symbol of Yale University Library, which highlights the source and extensive collection of books and can be said to complement each other. This is not only an ingenious design, but also a tribute to China culture by world-class libraries. China tourists who have the opportunity to visit Yale University may wish to visit the Stirling Memorial Library to see this wonderful work.
