How many academicians are there in the national universities in 2023?
The number of academicians of national universities in 2023 is as follows:

On October 22nd, 2023, China Academy of Sciences and China Academy of Engineering announced the results of the co-election of academicians in 2023, and 59 academicians of China Academy of Sciences and 74 academicians of China Academy of Engineering were elected respectively. After this co-election, there are 873 academicians of China Academy of Sciences and 978 academicians of China Academy of Engineering.

Among the newly elected academicians of the two academies, six are from Tsinghua, including Duan, Zhou, Hai, Hu Shimin, Li and Lu, academicians of China Academy of Engineering. Four people came from Peking University, including Duan Huiling and Zhang Zemin, academicians of China Academy of Sciences, and Huang Xiaojun and Zhang Qiang, academicians of China Academy of Engineering.

Changes in the Co-option of Academicians of the Two Academies in 2023

1, new requirements for academician referees

There are two ways to recommend academicians, the existing academician recommendation and academic group recommendation, and the academician recommendation is the main one. In order to break the "circle culture", this year's co-election of academicians of the two academies specifically pointed out that the recommendation process implements an avoidance system, and the scope of avoidance is immediate family members and major collateral relatives, as well as the teacher-student relationship of doctoral and master students.

In terms of academician recommendation qualifications, major adjustments have been made this year. Each academician can only nominate 1 candidate, one candidate is nominated by 1 academician, and candidates over 65 are nominated by 2 academicians. Compared with the previous nomination requirements of 3 people and 6 people, it has been greatly adjusted.

2. New requirements for academician candidates

Party and government organs and administrative organs (units) at or above the division level and responsible persons of enterprises managed by referring to the Civil Service Law shall not be candidates for academicians during their term of office in principle, and the chief scientists, chief engineers and other technical leaders of enterprises and the heads of their research institutions may be appropriately relaxed according to the situation.
