Historical evolution:
The school's predecessor was the National Northwest Agricultural and Forestry College, which was founded in 1934. It is the earliest higher agricultural and forestry education institution in northwest China. Since its birth, the school is closely related to the fate of the country and the nation, and bears the historical responsibility of building the northwest, developing agriculture and cultivating talents.
1September, 1999, in order to implement the strategy of western development and promote the overall reform of science and education system, the CPC Central Committee and the State Council established the former Northwest Agricultural University, Northwest Forestry College, Institute of Soil and Water Conservation of Ministry of Water Resources and Shaanxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
Seven scientific and educational institutions, including Shaanxi Academy of Forestry and Northwest Institute of Botany of Shaanxi Academy of Sciences in China, merged to form Northwest A&F University, and implemented the co-construction mechanism of ministries, provinces and institutes, giving the school the important mission of supporting and leading the development of modern agriculture in arid and semi-arid areas.
In 20 19, seven provincial colleges and universities, including the Ministry of Education, jointly issued the opinion of continuing to deepen the construction of Northwest A&F University, and jointly supported the school to speed up the construction of a world-class agricultural university, which brought new opportunities for the school's development.
