Established in 1994, CERNET is the first IPv4 backbone network in China. By the end of June 5438+February, 2003, the transmission rate of CERNET backbone network reached 2.5Gbps, and the transmission rate of local network reached 155Mbps, covering nearly 200 cities in 3/kloc-0 provinces and cities nationwide, with more than 20,000 kilometers of self-owned optical fiber and an independent international export bandwidth of over 800 mm.
At present, CERNET has 10 regional centers and 38 provincial nodes, and the national center is located in Tsinghua University. At present, CERNET has 1, more than 300 networked universities, educational institutions and scientific research units, with more than 1.5 million users. It is the basic platform of education informatization in China.
In addition to providing comprehensive Internet services, CERNET also supports large-scale educational informatization projects in many countries, including online high-tech distance admission, modern distance education, digital library, education and scientific research grid projects. Providing video conferencing and VOIP telephone services to the education system in time has made positive contributions to the fight against SARS in 2003.
CERNET is an experimental base for the next generation Internet research in China. In 2000, China's next-generation high-speed Internet exchange center DRAGONTAP was built in CERNET Network Center, which realized the interconnection between China and the international next-generation Internet for the first time. In March 2004, CERNET2 experimental network was opened, which is the first IPv6 backbone network in China and the largest pure IPv6 network in the world, marking the beginning of the next generation Internet construction in China.
Since 1994, with the implementation of five national projects, CERNET has developed rapidly.
