Welding technology and engineering is an undergraduate major in colleges and universities, which belongs to materials. The basic study period is four years, and the bachelor of engineering degree is awarded. The major of welding technology and engineering aims to train outstanding engineers with welding background, master the basic knowledge of welding technology and engineering system theory, as well as the professional knowledge and key technologies of welding structure manufacturing, and strive to improve students' engineering consciousness, engineering quality and engineering practice ability.

The basic knowledge of materials science includes material structure, crystal defects, phase structure and phase diagram, amorphous structure and properties, solid surface and interface, solidification and vapor deposition of materials, diffusion and solid phase transformation, sintering, deformation and fracture, electronic structure and physical properties of materials and introduction to materials.
2. Basic knowledge of materials engineering includes basic knowledge of fluid flow, heat transfer, mass transfer process and its control, material and product design, material selection, manufacturing, forming and failure analysis, engineering drawing, mechanical design and manufacturing, electrical and electronics, etc.
3. Physical and chemical knowledge includes gas, the first law of thermodynamics, the second law of thermodynamics, thermodynamics of multicomponent systems, chemical equilibrium, phase equilibrium, chemical reaction kinetics, electrochemistry, surface phenomena and colloidal dispersion systems.
