Since the establishment of 1938, Nanyi has trained tens of thousands of painters, artists, advertisements, costumes and interior designers for Southeast Asian countries, and its achievements for more than 60 years have also provided a powerful cornerstone for Nanyi in teaching and training, creative development, knowledge transfer and information technology promotion.
In order to maintain its due competitiveness at the beginning of 2 1 century, Nanyi aims to give priority to cultivating a new generation of young people with creativity and artistic innovation. 1In June 1997, Dr. Chen Qingyan, Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore, told the National Assembly that the government would reposition Nanyang Art Institute to help Singapore cultivate creative and artistic talents and enhance its economic competitiveness. The government decided to regard this university as an institution of higher learning that plays a key role in cultivating creative and artistic talents.
Nowadays, Nanyi has not only formed its own unique teaching characteristics in visual arts, international clothing, performing arts, interior design and commercial design. In the long-term development process, it has also reached a good understanding with many internationally renowned art colleges. Our diplomas have been recognized by foreign universities and technical colleges, and our graduates have become the main force of Singapore's design art.
Nanyi has made arrangements with two Australian universities, Curtin University of Science and Technology in Perth and UWS· Nipian University in western Sydney, so that Nanyi students can continue to obtain undergraduate degrees after holding college diplomas.
