The College of Literature of Wuhan University was formerly known as "China Gate" established by Zhang Zhidong in Qiangzi School on 1893. 1928 When the National Wuhan University was founded, it was officially named the College of Literature, with Wen Yiduo as the Dean. 1953, the national department was adjusted to form a new Chinese department. 1997 Rebuilding the Faculty of Arts. 1999 merged with the School of History and Culture and the School of Philosophy to form the School of Humanities. 19 18 was the initial stage of Wu Da College of Literature in the late 1920s. Famous scholars such as Huang Kan, Yu Dafu, Wen Yiduo, Zhou Zuoren, Qian, Lin Yutang and Zhou once taught in the College of Literature, which laid a solid foundation for the development of the College of Literature. Professor Huang Kan, who studied under Mr. Zhang, made outstanding achievements in the fields of writing, phonology and exegetics, and was known as one of the "three masters of Chinese studies" in the late Qing Dynasty. From the 1930s to the eve of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the College of Literature of Wuhan University grew up. Famous scholars, such as Liu Yongji, Xu, Tan, You Guoen, Su, Gao Feng, Feng Yuanjun, Ye Shengtao, Zhu Guangqian, Cyrus, Cheng Qianfan, etc. all taught in the College of Literature. China philology and China ancient literature have become the dominant disciplines of the College of Liberal Arts. As academic leaders of these two disciplines, Professor Boping Liu and Professor Liu Yongji have made outstanding achievements and won great reputations.
The 1950s was the heyday of Wu Da College of Literature. During this period, teachers in the whole hospital kept forging ahead and attached importance to discipline construction, which not only consolidated and developed the disciplinary advantages of Chinese philology and China ancient literature, making them among the best in similar disciplines in China, but also focused on the discipline construction of China new literature and foreign literature, cultivating and introducing a large number of talents, making these two disciplines influential throughout the country. At that time, the faculty of arts was rich in teachers and talents, forming an academic backbone known as the "Five Old Eight Middle Schools". The specific members of the "Five Old Eight Middle Schools" changed slightly before and after, mainly including Liu Yongji, Xu, Chen, Xilusi,; Cheng, Shen Zufen, Liu Shousong, Hu, Zhou Dabu, Li, and so on. Since 1980s, the College of Liberal Arts has emancipated its mind, strived for self-improvement, paid attention to personnel training, strengthened discipline construction and made progress step by step. Before the adjustment of postgraduate education in China, the number of master's programs reached 10, covering almost two disciplines of China language and literature. The construction of doctoral programs is also remarkable: China History Department with Mr. Huang Zhuo as the academic leader was approved to set up a doctoral program on 198 1, becoming one of the earliest doctoral programs in China; The discipline of modern and contemporary literature in China has developed rapidly under the leadership of Lv Yaodong and others. 1990 was approved as a doctoral program, with strong faculty and great influence in academic circles. The disciplines in the college are reasonably distributed, including modern and contemporary literature in China, ancient literature in China, literature and art, classical philology in China, comparative literature and world literature, linguistics and applied linguistics, and Chinese philology. Each discipline has the right to award master's and doctoral degrees. Undergraduate majors include Chinese language and literature and humanities experimental classes and Chinese studies classes (jointly organized with the School of History and the School of Philosophy).
At present, there are national research bases for humanities and social sciences: China Traditional Culture Research Center (jointly organized by literature, history and philosophy), and three key research bases at school level: China Language and Literature Classics and Collation Research Center, Language and Information Research Center and China Modern and Contemporary Literature Research Center. There are also China Literature Dissemination and Acceptance Center, Chinese and Foreign Literature Comparative Research Center, Applied Chinese Research Institute, Writing Research Institute, Ming and Qing Literature Research Institute, Wen Yiduo Research Office and Huang Kan Research Office.
The academic strength of the College of Liberal Arts is very strong.
