Changsha University of Science and Technology is a university and an important one.

Changsha University of Science and Technology was formed in April 2003 by the merger of Changsha Jiaotong University, which belongs to the former Ministry of Communications, and Changsha Electric Power Institute, which belongs to the former State Power Company (the former Ministry of Electric Power Industry). It has a postdoctoral research mobile station, the right to award first-class doctoral degrees and the right to promote master's degrees. Together with Huda, Hunan Normal University, Central South University and Xiangtan University, they belong to five first-class undergraduate schools in Hunan.

The school has two campuses, Jinpenling and Yuntang, 22 teaching colleges, 1 independent college, 1 continuing education college. There are more than 45,000 students (including more than 7,000 in Chengnan College), including more than 8,500 master's and doctoral students.
