Huade's life
Hua was born in a small businessman's family in Jintan County, Jiangsu Province.

1925, after graduating from junior high school, he was unable to continue his studies because of his poor family. 1928, 18-year-old Hua was recommended by his math teacher Wang Weike to be a clerk in Jintan Middle School. Unfortunately, however, this year he suffered from typhoid fever and stayed in bed for five months. Since then, his left leg has been paralyzed. However, he is not pessimistic and discouraged, but stubbornly studies hard. On one occasion, he found that Professor Su Jiaju's paper on solving quintic algebraic equations was wrong: the value of a determinant of order 12 was incorrect, so he wrote his own calculation results and opinions into an article entitled "Why the solution of Su Jiaju's algebraic quintic equation could not be established" and posted it in Shanghai Science magazine. 1930 This article was published in Science magazine when Hua was only 20 years old. It is this paper that has completely changed the road of life after China.

Xiong Qinglai, then head of the Department of Mathematics at Tsinghua University, saw this paper and greatly appreciated it. I asked around which university Professor Hua was from, but everyone said they didn't know. It happened that a teacher named Tang Peijing in the Department of Mathematics knew Hua. He told Xiong Qinglai that Hua was not a university professor, but a self-taught young man. Xiong qinglai is eager for talents and doesn't care about academic qualifications. He immediately asked Tang Peijing to invite Hua to work in Tsinghua University. 193 1 year, Tang Peijing took photos sent by Hua to meet Hua at Qianmen Railway Station in Beijing and set off from Jintan. Hua, the future great mathematician, walked into the Tsinghua campus with a broken leg and a cane. At first, he worked as an assistant in the department of mathematics, managing and sending letters and typing, and keeping books and materials. He teaches himself while working. Xiong qinglai also lets him often go to the classroom with the students. Hua, who is diligent and eager to learn, completed all the courses in the department of mathematics in the university in just one year, and his knowledge has made great progress. Xiong qinglai attaches great importance to this young man. Sometimes when he encounters complicated calculations, he will shout, "Hua, come and help me with this problem!" " Two years later, Hua was promoted to teaching assistant and then lecturer. Later, Xiong Qinglai sent him to Cambridge University for further study. From 65438 to 0938, Hua returned to China as a professor of National Southwest Associated University at the age of 28.

Hua later became a world-famous mathematician and made outstanding contributions in many fields, such as number theory, matrix geometry, typical groups, automorphic function theory, multiple complex variable function theory, partial differential equations and so on. He wrote more than 200 papers and monographs 10, and became a foreign academician of the American Academy of Sciences and an honorary doctor of Nancy University in France and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. His name has entered the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, USA, and is listed as one of the eighty-eight great mathematicians in the Chicago Museum of Science and Technology. ?

65438-0936, recommended by Professor Xiong Qinglai, Hua went to Cambridge University in England to study. Hardy, a famous mathematician in the 20th century, has long heard that China is brilliant. He said, "You can get a doctorate in two years." But Hua said, "I don't want to get a doctorate." I just want to be a tourist. " "I came to Cambridge to study, not to get a degree." In the past two years, he has devoted himself to studying the theory of heap-based prime numbers, published 18 papers on the problems of Waring, altruism and Chigodbach, obtained the famous Fahrenheit theorem, and showed the outstanding wisdom and ability of China mathematicians to the whole world. ?

From 65438 to 0946, Hua was invited to give lectures in the United States and was hired as a tenured professor by the University of Illinois. His family also settled in the United States, with a house and a car, and their life was very comfortable. At that time, many people thought that Hua would never come back.

The birth of the new China touched China's love for the motherland. 1950, he resolutely gave up his comfortable life in America and returned to his motherland. He also wrote an open letter to China students studying in the United States, urging them to return to China to participate in socialist construction. In his letter, he confessed his love for China: "Friends! Although Liangyuan is good, it is not the hometown of longevity. Go back to Xi ... For the sake of the nation, we should go back ... "Although mathematics has no national boundaries, mathematicians have their own motherland. ?

Hua returned from overseas and was warmly welcomed by the party and people. He returned to Tsinghua campus, was appointed as the head of the Department of Mathematics, and was soon appointed as the director of the Institute of Mathematics of China Academy of Sciences. From then on, the real golden age of his mathematical research began. He has not only made remarkable achievements that have attracted worldwide attention, but also enthusiastically cared for and trained a large number of mathematical talents. He devoted a lot of efforts to the research, experiment and popularization of applied mathematics. ?

According to incomplete statistics, Hua * * * has published important mathematical papers 152, 9 mathematical works and1/mathematical popular science works for decades. He was also elected as a foreign academician of the Academy of Sciences and an academician of third world scientists. ?

From junior high school graduation to people's mathematician, Hua has gone through a tortuous and brilliant life path and won great honor for his motherland.
