The school started from Sanjiang Normal School founded by 1902, and then went through important development periods such as Liangjiang Normal University, Nanjing Normal University, National Southeast University and National Central University. The former National Central University School of Engineering was merged into Fudan University, Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University and Jinling University, and Nanjing Institute of Technology was established in the original site of the National Central University.
