The Department of Food and Biological Engineering is the first department in Hubei University Vocational and Technical College to establish higher vocational education, with rich teaching experience. There are food science and engineering, commodity inspection and maintenance, biotechnology and other majors (environmental engineering, food quality and safety professional declaration), of which food science and engineering, commodity inspection and maintenance are the most distinctive majors in our college. The engineering department has a strong faculty and complete teaching facilities, and has a team of "double-qualified" teachers with high theoretical level and modern technology (skills). At present, there are more than 40 full-time and part-time teachers, of whom more than 20 have senior professional titles, and more than 80% have postgraduate qualifications. More than 20 well-known experts, professors, scholars and engineers from relevant universities and enterprises have been employed as part-time special teachers all the year round. In recent years, teachers have published more than 10 kinds of teaching materials for higher vocational colleges, and published more than 100 papers in various national journals. Two scientific research achievements have participated in the evaluation of the agricultural scientific and technological achievements transformation fund of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and more than 30 technological innovations and transformations have been carried out for grain, oil and food processing enterprises. The engineering department has established more than 10 fixed practical training bases outside the school and more than 10 first-class professional teaching laboratories with experimental facilities in the school, so that students can receive strict professional skills training and professional quality training. The Department of Engineering adheres to the teaching centered on ability training, and insists on "regarding high quality as life and strict management from beginning to end", and strives to improve the safety rate, qualified rate, graduation rate and employment rate. Attach importance to the construction of two teams of teachers and head teachers, strictly manage departments, realize the unity of academic qualifications and abilities, diplomas and levels, schooling and employment, extensively carry out the activities of "cultivating innovative spirit, innovative ability and innovative personality", and vigorously promote the teaching reform of "double qualifications, double teaching and double certificates". According to the compound teaching mode of "strengthening foundation, broadening caliber, paying attention to application and improving quality", it has created unique conditions for students to enter higher schools and find jobs. In recent years, the graduation rate of "2+2" college graduates accounts for more than 90% of the reference population, ranking first among similar majors in similar schools. Some students of Grade 99 junior college successfully passed the postgraduate entrance examination this year and entered the graduate school of Sun Yat-sen University.

Over the years, the engineering department has trained a large number of skilled and applied senior technical talents with solid theoretical foundation and strong practical ability for the society. Some majors offered by the engineering department are unique among schools at the same level, and there are few in China. At present, the talents trained by engineering majors are urgently needed by the society, especially after China's entry into WTO, the demand for these professionals will be even greater and more urgent. In recent years, the social employment situation has become increasingly severe, but all engineering graduates are still in short supply. The employment rate of graduates with special specialties (food science and engineering, commodity inspection and maintenance) is 100%, and about 70% of the fresh graduates are booked in advance by enterprises. A new model of "order education" has been initially realized. According to the characteristics of each major, the engineering department has also established more than 20 stable employment bases in China, keeping the employment rate of each major in the department above 90%. Professional advantages and employment prospects make the vast number of aspiring young people apply for engineering majors one after another.

"School-enterprise cooperation and common development" is another feature of engineering department's pursuit of integrated development of production, learning and research. In recent years, the Engineering Department has cooperated with many domestic enterprises, such as Wuhan Xinhua Flour Company, Hubei Tianfa Group Company, Anlu National Grain Reserve, (Singapore) Wuhan Xinyuan Food Co., Ltd., Huatai Vegetable Oil Co., Ltd., Hubei Huangshi, Xiaogan and Jingmen. Many enterprises have set up "special scholarship funds" here, which provide reliable study guarantee for top students and poor students, and provide a solid economic foundation for teaching and scientific research.
