1. Take the standardized entrance examination
You need TOEFL to apply for an undergraduate course. In fact, the best universities in the United States (TOP 100) now require applicants to provide SAT scores. To apply for graduate students, you need to take TOEFL, GRE or GMAT, depending on the school and major you are applying for. It is recommended that all exams be taken early. First, you can prepare your application early. Second, if you don't do well in the exam, you can have time to take it again and increase your application strength.
select a school
Undergraduate programs in the United States are generally enrolled in autumn, and the application deadlines of different schools are different. Generally speaking, the better the university, the earlier the deadline. The deadline for first-class universities is generally before 1 or earlier. Therefore, applicants should pay close attention to the deadline of their target schools so as not to miss the opportunity. There are more than 3,000 universities in the United States, so it is particularly important to choose one that suits you. At present, the cooperative institutions recommended by domestic study agents to applicants are mostly unknown in the most authoritative USNEWS (American News and World Report) university rankings. So I suggest you go to a regular study abroad planning service agency. The regular institutions recommended to you here are: American University Network, which only provides TOP 100 excellent universities in the United States.
Prepare a letter of recommendation.
Applicants generally need to provide three letters of recommendation in English. Some schools only require two letters. The recommendation letter shall explain the basic situation of the recommended person and introduce the performance of the recommended person, including academic papers, scientific research achievements, awards won, abilities possessed, etc. Generally, department heads and professional tutors write letters of recommendation, and it is best to get letters of recommendation from principals or tutors with senior titles or influential academic circles, which greatly strengthens the recommendation, but these 2-3 referees must have real contact with the applicants.
4. Prepare personal statements and papers.
Personal statement is an important document that affects admission. Personal statements should be true, comprehensive, concise and to the point, meet the requirements of American universities, and relevant contents should not be omitted. Personal statements are especially important for getting scholarships. You can fully reflect your ability to the school you apply for by writing. In addition, students applying for undergraduate courses usually need to provide one or several propositions or self-propositional compositions. These articles usually examine your values, outlook on life, attitude towards life and your ability to face challenges. Because China students' grades are often neck and neck, a good composition can distinguish everyone and win by surprise.
Step 5 prepare your resume
Resume is the applicant's manual, and the admissions teacher can know all your information as soon as possible. Therefore, a good resume can add luster to your application. In practice, we find that many domestic students don't understand the format and wording of English resumes, and many expressions confuse Americans, which is counterproductive. Therefore, when making English resumes, we should pay attention to American writing habits, formats and expressions, so that they can have an accurate understanding of you.
6. Provide school transcripts (transcripts)
Issued by the school, one in Chinese and one in English, with the school's seal and official seal. It is best for schools to provide average school scores, which can be converted into four-point GPA in the United States. The higher the GPA, the more favorable it is to apply for a good school.
7. Other supporting materials
In order to highlight the advantages, it is best to provide other documents that can fully prove your talents. For example, the experience of participating in social activities, specialty certificates, invention certificates, published articles and award-winning certificates of various competitions will greatly increase the chances of being admitted and winning scholarships.
8. Bank statement.
Relevant bank deposit certificates or financial assistance from relatives and friends, usually the amount must be enough for one year's tuition and living expenses. If you apply for a full scholarship provided by the school, you don't need to provide this certificate. If a relative or friend guarantees, the guarantor shall fill in Form I- 134 and attach relevant certificates.
9. Formal application
Submit all the application materials together with the application fee to the school of your choice, and supplement the materials at any time according to the requirements of the school. It should be noted that in order to ensure the application results, you can apply for some prestigious schools or some ordinary schools.
10. Get the school's Offer.
Waiting for the school admission notice. If you are admitted to several schools at the same time, don't react too quickly. You should carefully consider the scholarship situation, whether the tuition fee is reasonable and a series of comprehensive evaluations and your own wishes, and finally determine the school you want to go to. Schools that don't go should reply to each other and inform you of your decision.
Apply for a visa.
After preparing all the visa application materials, apply for a student visa from the US Consulate in China.
12. Entry and exit procedures
After obtaining an American visa, I successfully completed the relevant entry and exit procedures, application for studying abroad and preparations.
The tuition fees of community colleges are cheaper than those of four-year state universities and nearly 80% cheaper than those of private universities. The total average tuition fee of community colleges is less than half that of ordinary universities, and the average annual tuition fee is 5000-8000 dollars. The tuition fee of UC Berkeley in 2009-20 10 was $30,346, and that of Stanford University in 2009-20 10 was $37,380.
Community colleges in Washington state also offer "crash courses" for high school students aged 16, that is, they can study high school courses while studying for associate degree in community colleges. Upon completion of the course, students can obtain a Washington State high school diploma and an associate degree certificate from a community college.
