The discipline of mechanical engineering in Xi Jiaotong University includes three two disciplines: mechanical design and theory, mechanical manufacturing and automation, and mechanical and electronic engineering. Among them, mechanical manufacturing and automation, mechanical design and theory were rated as 200 1 national key disciplines. It is in a leading position in the research direction of tribology, dynamics, fault diagnosis, CIMS, laser rapid prototyping, numerical control technology, laser infrared and so on. The discipline of instrument science and technology in Xi Jiaotong University is a first-class discipline with the right to award master's and doctor's degrees in universities all over the country, including precision instruments and machinery and measurement technology. Design art belongs to literature in our country, and its first-level discipline is art, which is a new interdisciplinary subject, based on philosophy of technology, industrial sociology, psychology, industrial ecology, ecological aesthetics, art history theory, industrial design and art design, with various engineering technologies as the background.

Main development direction

The main development directions of design art in our college include:

1. For the purpose of China's modernization, explore the concept of "nature-oriented" sustainable development, and explore the concept of planning future-oriented sustainable life, production, energy, transportation, urban and rural areas and human settlements.

2. Study the relationship between people and things. At present, man-machine interface is the main research direction, and its basic research mainly includes motivation psychology, cognitive psychology, cognitive engineering, communication theory and so on. It involves user investigation and research, user model research, and the relationship between people and the environment in the industrial environment.

3. Design method research: including (not limited to) design history theory and art history theory, traditional functionalism, structuralism, humanization and cross-cultural design method research.

4. Aesthetic psychology research. This is a new direction developed from traditional aesthetics.

5. Scientific modeling research. Based on bionics, we can obtain beneficial shapes and structures from natural forms, and our research on laser rapid prototyping is in a leading position in China.

6. Research on information design. Its foundation is cognitive psychology and semiotics. Information design mainly includes information expression research (application of CAD, virtual reality and augmented reality) and information design research (information meaning, information flow, information structure and information understanding).
