The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), founded in 1963, is the second university established in Hong Kong and one of the eight higher education institutions in Hong Kong funded by the University of Hong Kong Grants Committee, which can award degrees. Cuhk consists of Xinya College (established in 1949), Chongji College (established in 195 1) and United College (established in 1956), and later Shaw College was established in 1986. It is the only university in Hong Kong that implements college federalism. At present, most departments of CUHK offer Chinese and English courses.
