The Historical Evolution of Xi 'an International Studies University
Xi International Studies University, founded in 1952, is one of the four earliest foreign language colleges established in New China, and the only ordinary university with complete professional foreign languages in Northwest China. Its predecessor was Northwest Russian College, which was formed by the merger of Russian Department of Northwest University, Russian Department of Lanzhou University and Russian Class of China Northwest Bureau Party School. Russian major was enrolled, and 1958 was renamed Xi 'an International Studies University. Postgraduates began to enroll students from 1979, and 1986 officially became the authorized unit of master's degree with the approval of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee. In February 2006, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the school was renamed Xi 'an International Studies University. It is an important foreign language talent training base in the western region of the country and plays an irreplaceable role in the field of foreign language education, teaching and scientific research in the northwest. Judging from the change of the school name, the development of the school has roughly experienced three stages: 1950. In order to meet the needs of national economic construction and political diplomacy, the Ministry of Education decided to establish a foreign language college in the northwest.

1959, the school added German and French majors.

1960 Spanish major was added and then merged with French major to form French-Spanish department.

From 65438 to 0966, when the Cultural Revolution began, the normal teaching order in schools was destroyed.

1969, the school was forced to move to Fuxian County, northern Shaanxi, and founded "Cave University" and "May 7th Cadre School". Teachers and students of all majors are engaged in manual labor in teaching.

From 65438 to 0972, the main body of the school moved back to Xi 'an, and the teaching order began to recover.

1975, the school added a Japanese major to the Russian Department and renamed it "Russian Japanese Department".

From 65438 to 0979, the school began to recruit graduate students.

From 65438 to 0985, the school took the lead in setting up the tourism department in China.

1986, approved by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee, the school officially became the authorized unit of master's degree.

1995, xi International Studies University and Shaanxi Foreign Studies Teachers College merged to form a new Xi International Studies University.

In 2002, the school held a celebration meeting to celebrate its 50th anniversary, and built the "Arc de Triomphe" at the gate of Yanta Campus. The English Department was renamed "English College".

In 2003, the school established the School of Film and Television Media of Xi International Studies University.

In 2004, the school added Korean as a major. In the same year, the major merged with the Japanese major and established the Oriental Language and Culture College.

In 2005, the Oriental Language and Culture College added Arabic major. In 2006, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the school was renamed "Xi 'an International Studies University", which is the fourth foreign studies university in China after Beijing Foreign Studies University, Shanghai International Studies University and Guangdong University of Foreign Studies.

In 2006, the East Language Institute and the French and Spanish Department added Hindi and Portuguese majors respectively.

In 2007, the French-Spanish-Portuguese Department merged with Italian majors to establish the Institute of Western Language and Culture; The School of Cultural Communication was reorganized into the School of International Relations, the School of Journalism and Communication and the China Institute of Language and Literature; Subsequently, the school established the International College.

In 2007, the Oriental Language and Culture Institute added a Hindi major. In 2008, the Oriental Language and Culture College added a Thai major.
