Five thousand years ago, Liangzhu culture, characterized by jade making and primitive religion, achieved great development in the local area. During the Shang Dynasty, there was a "Guangfulin culture" represented by geometric printed pottery and primitive celadon.
From the Western Zhou Dynasty to the end of the Spring and Autumn Period, Yixing belonged to the State of Wu. In the fourth year of Zhou Yuanwang (473 BC), Gou Jian, King of Yue, sent troops to destroy Wu, and Yixing was transferred to Yue. In the 30th year of King Xian of Zhou Dynasty (355 BC), the State of Chu rose up and destroyed Yue, and Yixing was returned to the State of Chu.
After Qin unified China, the county system was popularized. In 22 1 year BC, Yixing was officially established as Yangxian county.
In the fifth year of Emperor Gaozu of the Western Han Dynasty (202 BC), Yin Lingchang, the county magistrate of Yangxian County, was named the Hou of Yangxian County because of his contribution to the twelfth year of Emperor Gaozu of the Han Dynasty (195 BC). Yangxian County was renamed as the Hou State of Yangxian County, and it was renamed Yangxian County in the 12th year of Emperor Wendi (BC 168). In the fourth year of Jian 'an of Shundi in the Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 129), Yangxian moved southward to the lower part of Jingnan Mountain (now near Tongguan Mountain Scenic Area).
In the sixth year of Wu Chiwu in the Three Kingdoms (AD 243), Yangxian County was rebuilt by Jingxi River (now Jiaohe River), which laid the spatial position and development pattern of Yixing County.
In the first year of Yongxing (AD 304), the enviable son of Zhou Chu, Zhou Guiping, decided to rebel. Because of his contribution, he created the General, Xing Wu Prefecture, and Wu Chenghou, and the court specially established Yixing County for this purpose. Yuanyang County is governed by the county, and it has jurisdiction over Yixian, Guo Shan, Linjin, Yangxian and Wuhou.
Liu Sannian in the Southern Dynasty (AD 422) was placed under the jurisdiction of Yixing County along with An County. So far, Yixing has reached the period with the widest administrative jurisdiction in history, covering parts of Changzhou, Wuxi, Huzhou and Xuancheng.
In the ninth year of Emperor Wendi (AD 589), Emperor Wendi withdrew from Yixing County and merged Yangxian County, Guo Shan County and Linjin County into Yixing County, which was subordinate to Changzhou.
In the second year of Wude in Tang Gaozu (AD 6 19), Yixing County was divided into Yangxian County and Linjin County, and the county seat was changed to the state capital. In the seventh year of Wude (AD 624), Ezhou was renamed Nanxing County, and the next year it was renamed Yixing County.
In the first year of Song Taizong Taiping Xingguo (AD 976), Yixing County was changed to Yixing County, belonging to Changzhou, which was taboo because of Taizong. In the first year of Gongdi Deyou in the Southern Song Dynasty (A.D. 1275), Yixing was once renamed Nanxing Army.
In the Yuan Dynasty, Yixing moved its capital several times until the second year of Hongwu in Ming Taizu (AD 1369).
In the fourth year of Yongzheng in Qing Dynasty (AD 1726), Yixing County was divided into Yixing County and Jingxi County.
In the first year of the Republic of China (A.D. 19 12), it was appropriate for the two counties to reunite.
