Yangpu University Town has gathered famous schools such as Fudan University, Tongji University, Second Military Medical University of China People's Liberation Army, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Shanghai University of Science and Technology, Shanghai Electric Power University, Shanghai Ocean University, Shanghai Institute of Physical Education, and other well-known high schools in Shanghai such as Fudan Middle School, Jiaotong University Middle School, Tongji No.1 Middle School and Shanghai University of Science and Technology Middle School. According to the plan, Yangpu District will refer to the development ideas of the Bund and Lujiazui Central Business District, and build the University City into the Central Intelligence District (CID) of Shanghai, and refer to the Silicon Valley model of the United States to promote the linkage of campuses, parks and communities to form the development concept of "City University and University City".

As one of the few university towns built in the center of the city, Shanghai Yangpu University Town is moving from "Central Intelligence District" to "Silicon Valley" in Shanghai. This 60.6 1 square kilometer land has become a microcosm of the transformation of northeast Shanghai from an industrial economic zone to a knowledge-based economic zone. The government work report deliberated and adopted at the first session of the 12th Shanghai Municipal People's Congress clearly stated: "Building Yangpu University Town with Fudan University as the core".

The development and construction of Yangpu University Town is an important strategic decision of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government, an important part of fully implementing the strategy of "invigorating the city through science and education" and winning the tough battle of "outwitting Huashan", which is of great significance to the new round of development in Shanghai. The development and construction of Yangpu University Town is related to the future development direction of Yangpu, which is a great historical opportunity for Yangpu. It will have a far-reaching impact on comprehensively improving Yangpu's urban functions, building a "knowledge Yangpu", realizing leap-forward development, enhancing the overall competitiveness of the regional economy, and promoting the economic and social development of Yangpu and even the northeast of Shanghai.

As one of the most important science and technology education zones in Shanghai and even the whole country, Yangpu has gathered 17 universities, 150 research institutes,140,000 teachers and students, 38 academicians of the two academies, more than 500 doctoral supervisors, and more than 5,000 professors and associate professors.
