University of London is a federalist university composed of several administrative independent colleges, and it is also one of the largest universities in the world.

Colleges below universities have a high degree of autonomy. Each college has its own academic fields, such as: London School of Economics and Political Science is in charge of social sciences, London Business School is in charge of business (graduate students only), Royal Conservatory of Music is in charge of music, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and St. George's Medical College specialize in medicine, and Courtauld Art College is the world's leading art history research institution.

The development of history

When University of London 1836 was first established, there were only two colleges, University College London (1826) and King's College London (1829). After nearly two centuries of development, it has become a general university with 18 colleges. University College London, London School of Economics and Political Science, King's College London, Queen Mary University London, School of Asian and African Studies of London University, Golden Smith College of London University, London Business School and other institutions are also world-renowned in different fields.
