In 2022, seven universities in Hubei were selected for the second round of double-class construction, namely: Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China Geo University (Wuhan), Wuhan University of Technology, Huazhong Agricultural University, Huazhong Normal University and Zhongnan University of Economics and Law. There is no Three Gorges University, so the Three Gorges University is not a double-class university.

World-class universities and world-class disciplines, referred to as "double-class", are major strategic decisions made by the central authorities and the State Council. Two rounds of * * * selection for the construction of double first-class universities, the first batch of 140 universities, and the second round of 147 universities were announced in 2022.

The Three Gorges University is a university jointly established by the Ministry of Water Resources and Hubei Province. It has been selected as the second batch of "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Plan" of the Ministry of Education, the second phase of the basic capacity building project of universities in the central and western regions, and the "domestic first-class university" of Hubei Province.

The school has been successively rated as the national model worker's home, the national advanced unit of learning organization, the national advanced unit of running schools in an open and democratic way, the national model collective of national unity and progress, People's Daily Online, the advanced grass-roots party organization in Hubei Province, the civilized campus in Hubei Province, the garden-style unit in Hubei Province and the safe campus in Hubei Province.

Motto of Three Gorges University

"Seeking" comes from the patriotic poet Qu Yuan's "Li Sao", which says that "the road is long, and Xiu Yuan is Xi, so I will go up and down to seek". Taking "seeking" as the school motto can not only reflect traditional culture, but also show the flavor of the times; It has both the characteristics of the Three Gorges and simplicity.
