As the main discipline field of chemical industry, chemical engineering and technology specialty shoulders the important mission of promoting the development of chemical industry. This major trains senior engineers who can master the basic laws and principles of chemical production process and equipment, master the professional theoretical basis and knowledge of chemical unit operation, chemical thermodynamics, chemical reaction engineering, separation engineering and chemical technology, and engage in chemical product development, chemical process development, engineering design, system analysis and optimization and production management of processes and equipment.
With the goal of creating chemical brand specialty and cultivating characteristic talents, the college highlights the central position of teaching. Aiming at the requirement of "wide caliber and thick foundation" talent training, a modular curriculum structure with professional main courses as the core is constructed, and the curriculum leader system is implemented for eight professional main courses, and the curriculum leaders are all professors and associate professors with rich teaching, scientific research and management experience. The college has launched nearly 20 elective courses in the professional direction for students to choose independently, which has created good conditions for students' independent learning and personality development. This curriculum system realizes the close combination of erudition and accuracy. Organize well-known professors who are active in the front line of scientific research to open the course of "Lecture on the Progress of Chemical Research", integrate some latest research results into teaching in time, strengthen students' cognition of the frontier of the discipline, and truly reflect the promotion of scientific research to undergraduate education.
Aiming at the training requirements of research-oriented, engineering-oriented, compound (interdisciplinary) talents, a hierarchical practical teaching platform is established to cultivate students' practical skills and innovative spirit from different levels. Relying on the industrial advantages of the pillar industry of chemical and petrochemical industry in Jiangsu Province and the high-tech industrial belt along the Yangtze River, the new development of the industry will be radiated to the teaching link in time through the establishment of practice bases, R&D centers and mutual employment of personnel, and at the same time, more distinctive talents will be provided for the industry. The integration of scientific research into teaching and the transformation of scientific research results into teaching experiments have improved the quality and level of teaching experiments and formed our own experimental devices. The establishment of innovation laboratory and innovation fund not only cultivated practical skills, but also stimulated creative enthusiasm and inspired innovative thinking.
In 2004, the research and practice project of "establishing chemical brand specialty and cultivating characteristic talents" won the special prize of outstanding teaching achievements in Jiangsu Province.
