He was a member of the Standing Committee of the Seventh and Eighth China People's Political Consultative Conference, a counselor of the Beijing Municipal Government from 2000 to 2005, a member of the Central Committee of China Democratic League, and a vice chairman of Beijing. Now he is a professor and doctoral supervisor at the Institute of Population Studies of China Renmin University.
