East China University of Science and Technology, formerly known as East China Institute of Chemical Technology, was formed by merging the chemistry departments of Jiaotong University (Shanghai), Aurora University (Shanghai), Datong University (Shanghai), Soochow University (Suzhou) and Jiangnan University (Wuxi). 1952. It is the first institution of higher learning in New China which is famous for its chemical characteristics. 1956 was designated as one of the first batch of graduate schools in China, and 1960 was designated as a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education by the central government.
1993 was renamed East China University of Science and Technology with the approval of the State Education Commission. 1996 entered the ranks of "2 1 1 project" national key construction. In 2000, the Graduate School was established with the approval of the Ministry of Education. In 2008, it was approved to build the "985 Innovation Platform for Dominant Subjects" and was selected as a national key construction project in 20 17.

The school has 1 national key laboratories, 2 national key laboratories, 1 national technology innovation centers, 3 national engineering (technology) research centers, 1 frontier science centers of the Ministry of Education, 2 basic science centers of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 39 provincial key scientific research bases and 5 provincial humanities and social science think tanks (bases). A large number of major innovations have been achieved, with nearly 3,000 effective patents at home and abroad.
National University Science Park is one of the first six universities in China to establish a national technology transfer center. It has been selected into the national intellectual property information service center of colleges and universities, the national intellectual property demonstration colleges and universities, the intellectual property operation center of Shanghai colleges and universities, the transformation and technology transfer base of scientific and technological achievements of colleges and universities, the first batch of pilot units for the construction of national specialized technology transfer institutions in colleges and universities, and a number of industries and key technologies have been popularized and applied on a large scale, which has produced great economic and social benefits.
