Zhejiang Normal University was formerly known as Hangzhou Normal University. 1956, Hangzhou Teachers College was born at the West Lake in Hangzhou. This is the first institution of higher learning in Zhejiang Province that has grown from scratch without any schools since the founding of New China. 1958 In June, Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee and Provincial People's Committee decided to upgrade Hangzhou Normal University to Normal College.
