Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine was founded in 1924 Guangdong College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Guangzhou College of Traditional Chinese Medicine was established on 1956 with the approval of the State Council, and it is one of the first four institutions of higher learning of traditional Chinese medicine in New China. 1995 was renamed with the approval of the State Education Commission. Originally under the leadership of the Ministry of Health and state administration of traditional chinese medicine, it was transferred to the central and local governments in 2000, and was mainly managed by Guangdong Province.

The school actively promotes collaborative innovation and serves the local economy. Establish Industry-University-Research cooperation relationship with cities inside and outside the province 15 to help farmers get rid of poverty accurately and promote rural revitalization in mountainous areas. The series of Chinese patent medicines developed by the school, such as Wei Naian, Gu Xian Tablet, Xiaoke Pill, Jinfo Zhitong Pill, Zishen Yutai Pill and Hewei Zhitong Capsule, have become the core products of Guangdong pharmaceutical enterprises and sell well all over the country.
In the past three years, the school has made great efforts to develop the transformation of scientific and technological achievements and technology transfer, and the contract funds for the transfer of scientific and technological achievements have reached 50 million yuan. The province has built 50 standardized planting bases of Chinese herbal medicines with the characteristics of "Nanyao", with a planting area of over 6,543,800 mu.
The school vigorously excavates and promotes the culture of traditional Chinese medicine and shapes the unique humanistic environment of the industry. The Guangdong Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine built by the school is the first batch of national second-class museums in colleges and universities in China. Together with the First Affiliated Hospital and the Second Affiliated Hospital, it was identified by state administration of traditional chinese medicine as the first batch of national TCM culture publicity and education bases and became an important window for Guangdong to spread TCM culture.
