Huaqiao University is headquartered in Quanzhou, Fujian Province, directly under the leadership of the United Front Work Department of the Central Committee. It is a university directly under the central government personally approved by Premier Zhou. It is a comprehensive university jointly established by the United Front Work Department of the Central Committee, the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Fujian Province, and has been designated as a "national key university" by the Central Committee.

The school has strengthened discipline construction, forming a discipline layout that integrates arts and sciences, science and engineering, production and management, and coordinated development, covering 1 1 discipline categories. At present, there are 9 doctoral programs in first-class disciplines, 26 master programs in first-class disciplines and 22 master programs in professional degrees.
