Huang Wei, an academician of China Academy of Sciences and president of Nanjing University of Technology, recently said at the Wuhan University of Technology "High-end Forum on Cross-innovation of Materials Science and Information Science" that flexible electronics technology not only integrates technologies in the fields of electronic circuits, functional materials and micro-nano manufacturing, but also spans industries such as semiconductors, packaging, testing, materials, chemicals, printed circuits and display panels, which will drive the trillion-dollar market, help traditional industries increase added value and bring revolutionary changes to industrial structure and human life.

Flexible electronics has the characteristics of softness, deformability, light weight, portability, and large-area application. A large number of new applications have been produced through a large number of new materials and technologies, including RFID, flexible display, organic light-emitting diodes, sensors, flexible photovoltaics, logic and storage, and flexible batteries.

Huang Wei introduced that flexible electronics is widely used, specifically for health care such as artificial organs, mobile medical care, and "people networking" projects; Wearable smart devices are used in aerospace, deep sea exploration and other fields. In military defense, flexible electronics technology can realize the functions of individual communication and stealth, and improve the maneuverability and concealment of battlefield operations.

Flexible electronics has a vast market and a rapidly expanding market scale, which can become a national pillar industry.

According to the authoritative organization's forecast, the industry in flexible electronics will be 46.94 billion US dollars in 20 18, 30 10 billion US dollars in 2028, and the compound annual growth rate from 201kloc-0/to 2028 will be nearly 30%, which is in a long-term high-speed growth trend.

Huang Wei introduced that countries such as the United States, Japan and South Korea have strategically laid out flexible electronics projects, such as the United States using graphene sensors to explore brain nerve activity, rolling funding for printable spacecrafts, and Japan establishing an advanced printing electronic technology research and development alliance, with printing and thin film technology leading the printing electronic industry. China should seize the opportunity, form flexible electronics's independent innovation industrial chain, and promote flexible electronics's technological and industrial development through government leadership.
