The new campus of Shanghai Maritime University is located in the southwest corner of Lingang New Town. The campus covers an area of 2,000 mu, with a total construction area of about 600,000 square meters and a total investment of 2.468 billion yuan. It is planned to complete the supporting construction in three phases.

The construction of the new campus adheres to the guiding ideology of "all rivers run into the sea, all rivers run into the sea", which fully embodies the characteristics of international shipping culture and modern university campus culture. The overall design of the campus forms a courtyard layout system symmetrical in the east-west and north-south directions according to the axis, and a closed or semi-closed space is created between buildings, which is divided into different areas, such as secondary college area, public teaching area, living area, ecological landscape area around the lake, cultural activity area, sports center area and supporting functional auxiliary area. It has the characteristics of clear division of functions, relative independence and interconnection.

The new campus of Shanghai Maritime University is 3 kilometers away from Dishui Lake in the center of Lingang New Town and 70 kilometers away from the center of Shanghai. It faces the East China Sea, near the north bridge head of the East China Sea Bridge, connecting its Shanghai Shipping Center and Yangshan Deepwater Port across the sea. The planned construction land area of the campus is 6.5438+0.333 million square meters, about 2,000 mu, with a total construction area of about 600,000 square meters. The whole campus will be divided into: secondary college area, public teaching area, living area, sports center area, supporting functional auxiliary area and other different areas. The main construction contents of the new campus are: public teaching building, graphic information center, scientific research building, various college buildings, teachers' office and administration building, student dormitory, sports center, water training station and other teaching auxiliary buildings.

The construction of the new campus started in September 2004, and some school buildings were completed in September 2007, and new students settled in the new campus (about 5000 people). At the end of 2008, the main project was completed and the school was relocated.

According to the strategic development plan of Shanghai Maritime University, the final development scale is that the number of students in the school will reach and stabilize at around 20,000. By 20 10, there are 5,000 undergraduates15,000 postgraduates (including 800 doctoral students).
