Shanghai Theatre Academy belongs to a university. Shanghai Theatre Academy is a professional art college that mainly trains drama talents. Since the establishment of 1945, the school has always adhered to the concept of elite education, formed a distinctive talent training model for professional art colleges, and trained a large number of cultural and artistic talents for China. During the period of 1952, the national colleges and universities were reorganized, and the drama department of Shandong University Art Department merged with the Shanghai Xingzhi Art School Drama Troupe and was formally established, renamed the East China Branch of the Central Academy of Drama. 1956, officially named Shanghai Theatre Academy, is a higher professional art college directly under the Ministry of Culture, with Xiong Foxi as the first dean. In April 2000, it was handed over to Shanghai and the Ministry of Culture. In June 2002, the former School of Performing Arts of Shanghai Normal University merged, and Shanghai Opera School and Shanghai Dance School became affiliated schools.
