Ningxia Medical University is located in Yinchuan, the capital of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. It is a local medical university jointly established by the People's Government of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, the Ministry of Education and the National Health and Wellness Committee. The school's predecessor was Ningxia Medical College, which was established in 1958. 1962 was renamed Ningxia university medical department. Shanghai Railway Medical College 1972 moved to Yinchuan, merged with the Medical Department of Ningxia University, and rebuilt Ningxia Medical College. 1982 became a bachelor's degree awarding unit, and was renamed Ningxia Medical University in 2008. The school has two campuses, Salt Lake and Shuang Yi.
