The University of Salamanca has always been one of the important academic centers in Europe, with the same name as the University of Paris (France), the University of Oxford (Britain) and the University of Bologna (Italy). It is the oldest top public university in Spain and one of the oldest institutions of higher learning in the world. As far as its academic level and reputation are concerned, it is basically comparable to Tsinghua Peking University in China.
