Hunan University is located in Changsha, a famous historical and cultural city in China. It has a long history and a great reputation. It is a university directly under the Ministry of Education's "2 1 1 Project" and "985 Project". In August, 20 14, Hunan university was selected as the core cooperative university in the 201plan and the 20 165438 plan.

Hunan University enjoys the reputation of "a Millennium University, a century-old prestigious school". Yuelu Academy, which originated from one of the four ancient Chinese academies, was transformed into Hunan College in 1903 and officially named Hunan University in 1926. After the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC), the Central People's Government appointed Li Da as President of Hunan University, and President Mao Zedong wrote the name of the university. 1953, national faculty adjustment, Hunan University was renamed as Central South Institute of Architecture and Engineering and Hunan Institute of Engineering. 1959, restore the original name of Hunan University. Since 1963, it has been affiliated to the Ministry of Machinery Industry, 1978 has been listed as a national key university, and 1998 has been adjusted to a university directly under the Ministry of Education. In 2000, Hunan University merged with Hunan University of Finance and Economics, which was originally affiliated to the People's Bank of China, to form a new Hunan University, which is still directly under the Ministry of Education.

According to the ranking of 500 universities in the world published by CTWS of Leiden University in the Netherlands, Huda ranked 55th and ranked second among universities in China. According to the latest publication of Times Higher Education, Hunan University ranks 8 1 (China 16) in the ranking of Asian universities. At the same time, Hunan University ranks among the Times' top 500 in the world (20 universities in China).
