Xiamen University (XMU for short), located in Xiamen City, Fujian Province, is a national key comprehensive research university directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC) and the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC). It is also a key university jointly established by the Ministry of Education, the State Bureau of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, Fujian Province and Xiamen City, ranking among the "double-class" universities in China.
Xiamen University was founded in 19265438 by Chen Jiageng, a patriotic overseas Chinese leader. It is the first university founded by overseas Chinese in the history of modern education in China, and it is also one of the earliest universities in China to recruit graduate students. It established the Malaysian Late School of Xiamen University, and became the first university of Liangyou China to build an independent school overseas to respect the foolish and the Huai Garden. Its early buildings were selected as the national key cultural relics protection units and "the first batch of 20th century architectural heritages in China", and were praised as "the strong in the south".
By April 2022, the school has established Siming Campus, Zhangzhou Campus, Xiang 'an Campus and Malaysia Campus. The four campuses cover an area of more than 9,700 mu, including about 900 mu in Malaysia. There are graduate schools, 6 departments, 33 colleges (directly affiliated departments) and 16 research institutes; There are nearly 3,000 full-time teachers and 32 academicians of the two academies; There are more than 44,000 students and 20,000 undergraduates.
