From the perspective of interest, I think there is a fundamental question: do you get satisfaction from scientific research itself (scientific beauty, symmetry, etc.)? You don't care about its application, or whether you are committed to changing human life with science and technology, which determines whether you choose chemistry or chemical engineering.

From the perspective of ability, engineering emphasizes practice more. For example, going to the scene is more useful than just learning the book on chemical engineering principles.

From the perspective of future career development, whether you prefer to go to academia or industry, exploration or practice also determines your choice to some extent.

One more thing, chemical engineering is actually more related to physics and mathematics. Chemistry doesn't play that big role. If you have a good physical foundation and intuition, it will be very useful.

The Department of Chemical Engineering in Tsinghua is engaged in a lot of cutting-edge research, which we call "indomitable spirit", but at the same time, all this is application-oriented, which we call "indomitable spirit". We seldom study more mature topics, but devote ourselves to the technical reserves needed by the country and the world in the future.
