Beijing Sport University is the first batch of national key institutions identified by the State Council after the founding of New China. It is a national "2 1 1 project" key construction institution and has entered the "academic innovation and intelligence introduction program" of sports colleges and universities. The school was founded in 1952, and the opening ceremony was held in 1953. Formerly known as Central Institute of Physical Education, 1956 was renamed Beijing Institute of Physical Education, and 1993 was renamed Beijing Sport University. Chengdu Institute of Physical Education was founded in 1942, formerly known as Sichuan Institute of Physical Education. In 1950, the people's government took over and renamed it Chengdu Institute of Physical Education. 1953 was transformed into Southwest Institute of Physical Education, and 1956 was renamed. The school covers a total area of 480,000 square meters and is located in the central area of Chengdu, Sichuan Province, adjacent to the famous historical site Wuhou Temple.
