The newly compiled Japanese is a textbook I used in college. It was published by FLTRP in the 1980s. This is a super early version. There are 20 lessons in each volume, and each lesson is divided into preface, conversation, reading comprehension, grammar and vocabulary, as well as after-school exercises that match this lesson. Generally speaking, it is more suitable as a teaching material, because self-study will miss a lot of knowledge points, which should be supplemented by teachers in class.
Another newly compiled Japanese course, if I remember correctly, should be published by East China University of Science and Technology. This book is more suitable for self-study, with fragmentary content and increasing difficulty.
If you teach yourself, I suggest you also look at {Standard Japanese} or Happy Japanese. The former is more difficult than the latter, so you can choose as appropriate!
I hope I can help you. . .
