Sinhala major of Beijing Foreign Studies University was founded in 196 1. Bachelor degree for 4 years, with the right to award master's degree.

The first and second grades of Sinhala undergraduate teaching are the basic stage, and the third and fourth grades are the improvement stage. Courses include: intensive reading, audio-visual speaking, grammar, newspaper reading, literature history and literature reading, translation theory and practice, writing, etc. In the basic stage, students are trained in Sinhala language skills in an all-round way to consolidate the foundation of language skills. In the improvement stage, while continuing to learn the basic skills of listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation, we should further expand students' knowledge, focus on cultivating students' Sinhala comprehensive skills and pay attention to the cultivation of students' communicative competence.

The goal of this major is to cultivate Sinhalese professionals with solid basic skills, wide knowledge and strong adaptability to work. In addition to learning Sinhalese, students must also learn a second foreign language (English). Students who have studied English for more than 800 class hours can get an English diploma from Beijing Foreign Studies University upon graduation if they pass the examination. Those who have spare capacity can also take a second degree (economic and trade major, diplomatic major, etc. ).

The library of Beijing Foreign Studies University has more than 2,000 books of Sangha Tam, covering literature, history, religion, language and other fields.

The professional goal of Sinhala language is to cultivate compound foreign language talents who master the target language and are familiar with the target language culture.
