NTU has four earth science departments: Geology Department (College of Earth Science and Engineering), Geography Department (College of Geography and Marine Science), Atmospheric Department (College of Atmospheric Science) and Environment Department (Department of Environmental Science). The full name in brackets is the name found online.
The ranking seems very high (it should be the first or second in the country), but when you enter the university, you will find that the professional ranking is really not that important.
The faculty is very strong, there are several academicians (at least more than our geography department), and the teachers who teach undergraduates are also very powerful. For example, the course "General Geology" for freshmen (a large class in our department of geography and geology) was given by a very good professor (Shu). Although he is not an academician, he is almost at that level (it is said that his tutor is a member of the five-person team of world geology). But a strong teacher can't bring so many benefits as generally expected. They are usually busy and leave after class. Questions can only be asked to the graduate students he brought, so learning is mainly on his own. I don't know much about other teachers, but NTU teachers, especially those in class, are generally very strong.
Not many people take the postgraduate entrance examination, and even fewer are employed. Mainly overseas, insurance research. Generally speaking, it is necessary to take the G test and the T test, but it is more difficult for geology to go abroad with other disciplines (physical chemistry, etc.). ), because this is a popular major abroad (this is true), of course, there are also some opportunities to study abroad at public expense.
The basic guarantee of scientific research is to protect our school, and a small amount is given to China Geo University, Peking University and so on. I don't know if you are a freshman, if so, you can choose to enroll in the so-called "base class" when you first enter the freshman class. I'm from the "base class" of the geography department. Base classes are similar to "intensive classes", such as chemical base classes, biological base classes and geographical base classes. Freshmen and sophomores mainly attend classes with Kuang Yaming University (formerly the intensive department) (including physics, chemistry, biology and other general science courses, which will be very hard for freshmen and sophomores), and then choose the direction for juniors. The direction of our geography department is land management, geographic information system, marine science, tourism management and so on. I'm not very clear about the geology department. It seems that there are geological sciences, geological engineering, geochemistry and hydrology. The scientific research support rate of the base class is quite high, reaching about 70%. Generally speaking, as long as the result is not too excessive, it can still be guaranteed in the end. Moreover, entering the basic class may lead to higher horizons (not necessarily a good thing), not satisfied with the insurance research, but want to go abroad, or take an examination of your favorite school, and so on.
Employment is not very popular, usually going to scientific research institutes and universities. Of course, if you choose the direction of geological engineering, the employment will be wider. In my opinion, going abroad to engage in geological research in foreign scientific research institutions is the best choice. I feel bad about the scientific research environment in China. The research atmosphere of NTU is really strong, and I can't stand it. I chose the direction of geographic information system in the basic geography class, which is also the application and employment direction of geography department. I'm in Grade 07, and my views are not necessarily mature. You have to try to distinguish them yourself.
If there is anything else I can do, I have an email address in my personal description. Type one word at a time, I hope it helps.
