Tibet University is a comprehensive university affiliated to Xizang Autonomous Region and a national key construction university under the "2 1 1 Project". 20 13 was listed in the Revitalization Plan of Higher Education in the Midwest, 20 17 was selected as a "double-first-class" university, and 20 18 became a university jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the Xizang Autonomous Region Municipal People's Government.
The history of running a school can be traced back to the training course for Tibetan cadres founded by the troops who entered Tibet in 195 1, and it has gone through the development stages of Tibet Military Region Cadre School, Tibet Local Cadre School and Tibet Administrative Cadre School. 1965 and 1975 schools have been upgraded to Tibet Normal School and Tibet Normal College, creating a precedent for normal education in Tibet.
1985, officially renamed Tibet University with the approval of the Ministry of Education. From 65438 to 0993, the College of Tibetan Medicine of Tibet University was independently established as Tibet College of Tibetan Medicine (now Tibet University of Tibetan Medicine).
1999, Xizang Autonomous Region Art School, Tibet Medical College, Tibet University for Nationalities Medical Department and Xizang Autonomous Region University of Finance and Economics were merged into Tibet University. After more than 70 years of construction and development, the school has become a teaching and research-oriented comprehensive university with the characteristics of plateau frontier ethnic areas.
The school has Jinna Campus, Hebalin Campus, Norbulingka Medical College Campus and Norbulingka College of Finance and Economics Campus, with an area of 1.400 mu and a construction area of 470,700 square meters. Education City Campus is under planning and construction.
At present, there are 14 colleges (departments) such as College of Arts, College of Science, College of Engineering, Medical College, College of Art, school of economics and management, College of Tourism and Foreign Languages, College of Politics and Law, College of Education, College of Finance and Economics, College of Information Science and Technology, College of Marxism, Tibet Branch of the Open University of China (College of Continuing Education) and International Student Department.

Among them, 10 century books Prajna Paramita and 25,000 Prajna Paramita Odes were selected in the third and fifth national lists of precious ancient books, respectively, and Bodhisattva Literature was selected as the important achievement of the 40th anniversary of reform and opening up by China Tibetology Research Center. 576,000 electronic books.

The school has three first-level disciplines of ethnology, Chinese language and literature and ecology, 2 1 first-level disciplines of master's degree and 14 professional master's degree. There are two national key disciplines, namely, ecology and China language and literature (Tibetan language and literature), and 14 autonomous region-level key disciplines. Ecology was selected as a "double-class" construction discipline.
