The school is located in Xining, the capital of Qinghai Province. Founded in 1956, formerly known as Qinghai Normal University. 1958 was upgraded to Qinghai Normal University, and 1984 was renamed Qinghai Normal University. After 1997, Qinghai Institute of Education, Qinghai Teachers College for Nationalities, bank of qinghai School and Qinghai Water Conservancy School merged one after another to form the new Qinghai Normal University.
