Over the past 60 years, under the correct leadership of the school party committee and administration, and through the hard struggle of several generations of rural doctors, the college has grown from small to large and from weak to strong, forming a school-running pattern with outstanding academic advantages, distinctive features and perfect teaching system. At present, the college has three undergraduate majors: animal science, animal medicine and animal and plant quarantine (animal quarantine direction), among which animal medicine and animal science are national majors and Hubei brand majors. The college has two first-class disciplines authorized by doctoral degrees in animal husbandry and veterinary medicine, two postdoctoral research stations, and eight two disciplines, including animal genetics and breeding, animal nutrition and feed science, special economic animal breeding, animal production and animal engineering, basic veterinary medicine, preventive veterinary medicine, clinical veterinary medicine, zoonosis and veterinary hygiene. Among them, the first-level disciplines of animal husbandry and veterinary medicine are all key disciplines in Hubei Province, animal genetics, breeding and reproduction are national key disciplines and "dominant disciplines in Hubei universities", and the discipline of preventive veterinary medicine is "characteristic disciplines in Hubei universities". Animal genetics, breeding and reproduction, animal nutrition and feed science, basic veterinary medicine, preventive veterinary medicine and clinical veterinary medicine are all established disciplines in Chutian Scholars' plan. In 2008 and 20 12, the discipline of animal husbandry and veterinary medicine in our hospital was among the best in China.
