The Department of History offers two undergraduate majors, namely, normal education, development and application of cultural resources, and four teaching and research sections, namely, ancient history of China, modern history of China, world history and development and application of cultural resources. It has a master's degree authorization point in the first-class discipline of ancient history in China, including two disciplines and research directions, namely, ancient history of China, specialized history, cultural exchange between China and the West, Lingnan culture, and the study of Guangzhou Thirteen Lines.
The history department is one of the earlier majors established in Guangzhou University, and its predecessor was the history department of Guangzhou Normal University established by 1958. 20 10 won the first-class master's degree in history in China. In June 2009, "Guangzhou Thirteen Lines Research Center" was approved as the key research base of humanities in Guangzhou.
In recent years, with the joint efforts of all teachers, scientific research has achieved fruitful results, and has undertaken and completed 5 national social science projects, 7 major humanities and social science projects in Guangdong Province 1, 7 provincial and ministerial projects and 27 municipal projects.
