1887 10 In October, the University of Oregon established the Department of Medicine in the northwest of Portland. Since the first batch of building materials were laid, this university has significantly expanded in form and function, but its core values and mission remain unchanged today.

Less than a quarter century after the Oregon Road was opened and only eight years after Oregon joined the Union, Willamette University welcomed the first batch of medical students in Salem campus.
1877
The medical program of Willamette University moved to Portland.
1880
Oregon Railroad and Navigation Company bought 360 acres of land, which is invisible, at the top of Marquem Mountain. Their plan is to build a railway station, terminal and so on.
1887
The University of Oregon chartered Portland State Medical College and started the Department of Medicine at the University of Oregon.
1898
Oregon Dental College was founded in Portland.

A brief history of Oregon Health and Science University
1867
Less than 25 years after the "Oregon Road" was opened, and only 8 years after Oregon joined the Federation, the Salem campus of the University of Willamette enrolled the first batch of medical students.
1877
The medical school of Willamette University moved to Portland.
1880
Oregon Railroad and Navigation Company has purchased land on the hidden Macon Hill and plans to build a railway maintenance workshop and terminal there.
1887
Oregon Medical College was founded in Portland.
1899
Tacoma School of Dentistry moved to Portland. The following year, the two schools merged to form the North Pacific Dental College, which was later renamed the North Pacific Oregon College.

The University of Willamette and the University of Oregon merged to form the University of Oregon Medical College.

Marquam Hill Campus, which currently covers an area of 1 16 acres, started with 20 acres donated by Oregon-Washington Railway and Navigation Company and 88 acres donated by C.S. Jackson's family, the former publisher of Oregon Daily.
A statewide child development and rehabilitation center service plan was established, initially providing diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation services for disabled children in medical schools.

The University of Oregon School of Medicine moved from downtown Portland to Marquem Hill in the southwest of Portland.
The first building, Mackenzie Building, is named after Kenneth A.J. Mackenzie, MD, the second dean of the school and also a railway surgeon. He persuaded the railway company to donate their land on the top of the mountain, because it had proved useless for railway purposes.
The University of Oregon in Eugene began offering nursing courses.
1920
Portland School of Social Work began to offer public health nursing courses.
1899
Tacoma College of Oral Surgery moved to Portland. The following year, Portland Medical College merged with the School of Oral Surgery to establish the North Pacific Dental College. The North Pacific Dental College was later renamed the North Pacific Oregon College.

Some departments of Willamette University and the University of Oregon merged to form the University of Oregon Medical College.

The construction of Macon Hill Campus began. The Oregon-Washington Railway and Navigation Company donated 20 acres of land to the campus, and the C.S. Jackson family (Jackson is the former publisher of Oregon Daily) donated 88 acres of land to the campus. At present, Makengshan Campus has 1 16 mu of land.
Quanzhou Children's Development and Rehabilitation Chinese and Western Services Program was first launched in Medical College. The program aims to provide diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation services for children with physical defects.

The University of Oregon School of Medicine moved from Lower Portland to Mount Macon in southwest Portland. It is still in use today.
In the same year, the Mackenzie Hall named after Kenneth Mackenzie was established. This is the earliest building in Macon Hill Campus. Kenneth Mackenzie is a doctor of medicine, the second dean of the college, and a surgeon of the railway company. It was Kenneth who persuaded the railway company to choose the top of Mount Macon as the land grant (Mount Macon was useless to the railway at that time).
In the same year, the University of Oregon at Eugene began to offer nursing courses.
1920
Portland Institute of Social Work began to offer public health care courses.
1923
Multnomah County Hospital opened in Marquam Hill Campus and signed a contract with Medical College to provide services for poor patients.
1926
The University of Oregon has set up a five-year program to earn a nursing degree. In the second year, a dormitory for nurses was built on campus.
Doernbecher Children's Memorial Hospital was built on Marquam Hill campus, becoming the first full-service children's hospital in the Pacific Northwest.
1928
University of Oregon School of Medicine takes over Dornbeck Hospital.

The outpatient building was built and opened on Marquam Mountain, allowing medical and nursing students and residents to gain practical experience.
1932
The department of nursing education begins.
1923
Motenoma County Hospital opened in Macon Hill Campus and signed a contract with the Medical College to provide services for poor patients.
1926
The University of Oregon offers a five-year nursing degree program. The following year, the school built a nursing dormitory.
In the same year, Dornbecher Children's Memorial Hospital was established in Macon Hill Campus, becoming the first comprehensive children's hospital in the Pacific Northwest.
1928
The University of Oregon School of Medicine took over the operation of Dornbecher Children's Memorial Hospital.

1956
The medical college hospital is built on Marquam Mountain. The dental school of the University of Oregon moved from Northeast Street in Oregon to its present location in Marquem Mountain.
1960
The Department of Nursing Education became the College of Nursing at the University of Oregon in Portland in the Oregon State Higher Education System.
1973
University Hospital is a combination of Motnoma County Hospital, Medical College Hospital and Outpatient Clinic.
1945
University of Oregon School of Dentistry was founded.
1954
The Child Development and Rehabilitation Center provides facilities at the Macon Hill campus.
1956
The medical college hospital is built on the campus of MacKenhill. The School of Dentistry of the University of Oregon moved from Northwest Street in Oregon to its present address, Macon Hill Campus.
1960
The Department of Nursing Education was incorporated into the Oregon State Higher Education System and became the Portland College of Nursing at the University of Oregon.
1973
Motenoma county hospital, medical college hospital and several outpatient departments merged into a university hospital.
1974
University of Oregon Health Science Center is an independent institution under the guidance of Oregon State Higher Education System. All the projects of schools, hospitals and universities were concentrated under one umbrella, and this new center was created, which became the only academic health center in Oregon and one of the national 125 centers.

The institution was renamed Oregon Health Science University.
1974
Under the guidance of the Oregon State Higher Education System, the University of Oregon Health Science Center became an independent institution.
