Jiangsu University of Science and Technology was formerly the Shanghai Shipbuilding Industry School, the first secondary specialized school of shipbuilding industry in New China, which was established by the Shipbuilding Industry Bureau of the First Ministry of Machinery Industry on 1952.

Based on 1953, Shanghai Electromechanical Industry School (from 1933), Fujian Fuzhou Industrial School Shipbuilding Department (from 1866), Shanghai No.1 Mechanical Industry School Shipbuilding Department (from 1907), Shanghai Fisheries Institute (from/kloc-0)

1953 In August, Shanghai Shipbuilding Industry School was formally established. /kloc-moved to Zhenjiang in 0/970 and changed its name to Zhenjiang Shipbuilding Industry School. 1978 was upgraded to undergraduate course and renamed Zhenjiang Institute of Shipbuilding Industry. 1993 was renamed East China Institute of Shipbuilding Industry. 1999 Jiangsu Jianghai Trade School was merged.

1999 the school was handed over to Jiangsu province for management by the former China State Shipbuilding Corporation. In 2000, the Institute of Sericulture of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences merged with the school. In 2004, the school was renamed Jiangsu University of Science and Technology.

As of May, 20 18, the school has three campuses of Zhenjiang East, South and West and Zhangjiagang Campus, covering an area of 2,492 mu. The new campus of Shili Changshan, Dantu New District, Zhenjiang City, covering an area of more than 2,350 mu, is under comprehensive construction. There are 2 1 10700 paper books and more than 2.7 million e-books.
