Historical Evolution of School of Mechanical Engineering of Nanjing Institute of Technology
The predecessor of the School of Mechanical Engineering is department of mechanical engineering, a national model engineering college of the former Ministry of Machinery. Its school-running history can be traced back to the experimental department affiliated to Tongji Medical College (the predecessor of Tongji University), which was founded in 19 15 with a history of nearly a hundred years. Since 1989, we have cooperated with Nanjing University of Science and Technology and Jiangsu University to train undergraduate talents in mechanical design, manufacturing and automation. Since 1993, we have established the undergraduate major of mechatronics and automotive technology with Nanjing University of Science and Technology and Jiangsu University of Science and Technology (Jiangsu University). In 2000, the two majors merged into the major of mechanical design, manufacturing and automation (including mechanical manufacturing, electromechanical engineering, fluid transmission and control, automobile technology), and a new major of industrial design was established. In 2002, the major of mechanical design, manufacturing and automation added two major directions: urban rail vehicles and mechanical design, and the new major of industrial engineering began to recruit students for the society. In 2003-2004, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the specialty of process equipment and control was added. Around 2000, the major of thermal processing and industrial design was separated from the department of machinery, and another department of materials and design was formed (namely, the School of Materials and the School of Design). At the beginning of 2007, the original mechanical department was renamed as Mechanical College. At the same time, the mechanical design, manufacturing and automation, automobile technology and urban rail vehicles are separated from the mechanical college (the professional affiliation remains unchanged), and the vehicle engineering department is established. In 2007, the original mechanical and electronic engineering major began to enroll students as an independent major. The School of Mechanical Engineering now offers five undergraduate majors, including mechanical design, manufacturing and automation (including six major directions), industrial engineering, process equipment and control, mechanical and electronic engineering and mechanical engineering, with more than 2,000 undergraduates.
